THE S.O.B. PLAN FOR DAILY LIVING

Pay attention to what you want!

Identify what’s important for you to get done.  Make that the number one first significant activity of your day.  When you are used to it, it becomes routine.  What your day consists of will change as your life changes as well, but whatever the circumstances, a routine is important.

List the other things you can’t live without.  Then list what you wish you never saw again.  Get rid of the things you can and live with the things you can’t.  You may upset some people who thought they were #1 on your list, but who says you have to let everything and everyone pull on you.  That’s idiotic!

Take some time to think about all the things you want to be doing and aren’t, where you’d like to be and aren’t, and the people you’d like in your life who aren’t there yet.  Then go about finding and doing them.

At this point, your life shouldn’t be out of control.  Although you may delight in serving others, there still has to be self-care.  If you wonder where you day has gone and what you’ve accomplished in it, you aren’t living the S.O.B. life you should.  These are the “golden years” and there should be a lot of zest in your life.  Put attention on what you want.

Everyone has many crises in a day, but if you have purpose and passion, you will get through it all.  You decide how your day will go, no one else.  You deserve a full life and you have to be the one who orchestrates it.

Ask yourself—what IS keeping it all together?  Things will get in your way, so make an adjustment and then go back to your routine.  However, if you don’t have a plan for your day, nothing will happen.

Are you a multi-tasker?  That word doesn’t even fit an S.O.B.  Back in the 80’s, it meant being all things to all people.  Now it means you can do what is most important.  Ask yourself, what are the three top activities I want to enjoy today?   Your life is yours to live the way you want to.

One of the ways you create a plan is to look at the big picture.  Try to visualize your month at a glance.  See the one page calendar of the entire month and know where your free time is, when you have meetings, have to be out of town, have doctor’s appointments etc.  Then choose what works for you. If you look at the five S.O.B. things you do every day as a habit, you can fit in extra things here and there.  But if you are a perfectionist, you’ll never get significant things done.
