Find Time for Rest and Relaxation

I’m sure many of you had a celebratory Mother’s Day! I got phone calls from all the kids (grand and great-grand included) but was alone here in Palm Desert dog sitting for my son who was in Miami. Crazy huh! And I had a cat sitter for my cats!!

Hopefully the day was part of R & R for you. Relaxation is different for everyone. I relax by working out, petting the cats, watching TV (yes I like TV), and reading. Cooking, cleaning, gardening are not relaxing for me. And when I get to 9 p.m. at night, I’m ready for bed. I don’t turn the lights off until 11 but that’s when I watch TV with a cat in my lap and another by my side.

When you start practicing this, it will become automatic There is not just one way to do something. You can travel many paths to reach your goals.Don’t live someone else’s dream–make sure it’s yours.

Make your surroundings comfortable. Tie your recreation to your goals when possible. Use your travel time in the car for education and learning. Make easy changes and put yourself in circumstances that encourage rather than discourage.

Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Take 30 minutes a day just for you. (15 if you are in a pinch).
  2. Escape mentally to your Fantasy Island.
  3. Take mini-vacations. Go for the 3 day rather than 1 or 2 weeks.
  4. Keep your emotional bank account full.
